**Main purpose of the job**

Apprenticeships are an essential ingredient of economic success and a vital tool in building a stronger, fairer and more equal Wales. As a strategic leader within Medr, you will oversee the design and development of the apprenticeship programme to meet employer needs and offer joined up learner pathways at all skill levels.

You will work closely with a range of stakeholders across the tertiary sector and Welsh Government, and collaborate with colleagues with responsibility for apprenticeship contract and relationship management.

**Job description**:
**What you'll be doing - **Key tasks
- Providing oversight and strategic leadership to the apprenticeship team to ensure they can deliver their extensive responsibilities.
- Managing Medr’s relationship with Welsh Government in respect to apprenticeship matters, working closely with a broad range of policy teams across Welsh Government to deliver on common goals.
- Ensuring apprenticeship policy, which informs the design and delivery of the programme, is in accordance with the reforms to the Welsh apprenticeship system provided for in the Tertiary Education and Research (Wales) Act.
- Building and maintaining constructive relationships with external stakeholders including Welsh and UK Government, providers across the post-16 sector, employers, business and industry, sector groups, including facilitating sharing of good practice and enhance the quality of apprenticeship delivery.
- Representing Medr at a senior level, working in collaboration with partners across Wales and the UK to ensure compatibility of systems and portability of skills across the UK market.
- Managing the team’s budget and people resource to enable effective delivery of the team’s activities.

**About your team**

You will manage a multi-disciplinary team of around 15 people within the Research, Innovation, and Skills Directorate. This team plays a pivotal role in enhancing the apprenticeship offer across key sectors and promoting strategically important sectors and promoting it to young people and the existing workforce. They foster collaboration throughout the post-16 sector to support learner progression and create accessible and inclusive pathways. Additionally, they work with stakeholders using a co-production approach to refine apprenticeship frameworks, addressing evolving needs and priorities such as net zero and the Welsh language.
