Research Midwife

Bristol, United Kingdom North Bristol NHS Trust Full time

This is an exciting opportunity for two WTE Band 6 Research Midwives to become involved in implementing a Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial. We have two 1.0WTE posts available, one for 24 months, and a further post for 12 months.

The PARTNER trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of the Tommy's Clinical Decision Support Tool. You will be one of the primary contact points for participating maternity units. Working with the wider team, you will be helping to publicise the study and identify potential maternity units, as well as training and supporting units staff to conduct the trial.

These are fixed term posts covering the duration of the project and we do not anticipate extension beyond this time.
- Work independently and closely with the Chief Investigator, Trial Co-ordinator (Bristol) and the Tommy’s Centre Implementation Team (for training).
- Support the Bristol Trials Centre to coordinate the study at a national level by providing leadership and support to the local Research Midwives at the participating sites.
- Support the intervention sites with all aspects of practical implementation, such as
- facilitating the countdown to launch in each site.
- supporting the concept, design, and delivery of training and information resources.
- support the ongoing development of our education package & guidance for staff and women to support the implementation.
- Act as a liaison with Tommy’s Centre e.g., such as digital development, PPI etc.
- Support training of local site leads & champions on the purpose & functionality of the Tool.
- Take the lead for the continuing educational programme for clinical staff in recruiting sites. Assist the local Research Midwives and local clinical co-ordinators to implement and maintain this programme.
- Support recruiting centres by dealing with queries and troubleshooting.
- Contribute to monthly collaborative site team meetings.

Although this is a new role mainly entailing remote working and travel, you will be linked to a team of dedicated research nurses, midwives and administration staff who set-up and deliver research throughout the Womens' and Childrens' portfolio at North Bristol NHS Trust.

The post holder will have ongoing responsibility for the management and organisation of his/her research duties, ensuring a high standard of study administration and record keeping, with corresponding responsibility to the midwives at the participating sites. The post holder(s) will receive in-depth training on the use and implementation of the Clinical Decision Support Tool and will be expected to train and provide support to intervention sites to implement its use. The post holder will provide support as a key member of the PARTNER RCT team and will:

- Work with a high level of autonomy, in collaboration with the PARTNER study team
- Work closely with clinical and research staff at each RCT site. Relationships with senior midwifery and obstetric staff, and Principal Investigators will be key to success.

The post holder will be based remotely at the North Bristol NHS Trust and be willing to work from here when required. You will be available to travel to research sites across England. At the time of writing, most programme activity is conducted remotely.
