**The Opportunity**:
To assist the University with its fire safety related responsibilities by providing the University community with the necessary guidance, advice and support on all matters relating to compliance with fire safety legislation and codes of practice, thus ensuring uniformity in terms of fire safety practice throughout University properties.

**Your skills and attributes for success**:

- Demonstrable experience in providing fire precautions advice, competent fire safety advice and undertaking fire risk assessment in a similar multi-disciplinary environment.
- Demonstrable experience in the delivery of fire safety related training courses.
- Thorough knowledge of current fire safety legislation and guidance.
- A suitable qualification in fire risk assessment and fire engineering is desirable or the equivalent experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with evidence of engagement with a range of people including staff, students and external organisations.

**About the Team**

The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and currently occupies more than 550 academic, administrative and residential buildings throughout the city of Edinburgh across 5 campuses; Central Area, Kings Buildings, Easter Bush, Bio
- Quarter and the Western General Hospital. There are also sporting facilities at Peffermill.

The Health and Safety Department is part of the Corporate Services Group and provides a range of key activities that help the University to achieve its corporate objectives. The Fire Safety Unit provides specialist advice to the University on fire safety strategy to deliver competent advice and services for the University community.
