**About the Role**:
Watlington Medical Centre is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice, to support our nursing team on a part-time basis. The post holder will be required to work 12 hours per week on the following days - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9am -1pm.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing the following tasks:

- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
- Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
- Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

- Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification or experience;
- Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture;
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care;
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes;
- Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues;
- Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient;
- Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required;
- Flexibility and an adaptable approach;
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
