Window Sample Driller

South West Geotechnical Ltd is a small geotechnical Consultant and Contractor based in Tiverton, Devon. We employ ~28 members of staff and offer a fully comprehensive ground investigation service.

We are looking for a Window Sample Operative to join our drilling team. If successful, you would be working within our small but well-formed drilling team on largely in-house projects or occasionally undertaking investigations for other local consulting engineers. SWG’s work primarily involves civil infrastructure and renewable energy projects; such as roads, schools, bridges, wind turbines and solar parks.

The role will come with the opportunity to have close co-operation with our Engineering department, including project set-up and logistics, as well as interaction with other elements of the business such as in-situ earthworks testing and laboratory testing. This role is integrated with the rest of the business and is critical in delivering high quality geotechnical information. It is therefore an exciting opportunity for the right person looking for a position where their contribution counts.

Projects are undertaken throughout the UK and occasionally into Europe. Therefore you should expect to travel within the role, experiencing some great places along the way Staying away accommodation is provided along with subsistence allowance of £35 per night.

Duties will include:

- Operation of Window Sampling drilling rig
- Maintenance of drilling rig and ancillary equipment
- Sampling and undertaking in-situ testing to industry standards
- Follow and promote company health and safety policies and practices
- Enjoy the Great Outdoors
- Be mechanically minded, helping maintain the rig and ancillary equipment
- Experience not required - Our in-house NVQ qualified drillers will show you the ropes
- Possess a full clean driving licence
- Have good communication skills
- Agricultural or construction background would be useful

The role will come with a competitive salary with overtime, company pension, 28 days annual leave and use of a company vehicle to travel to project sites.

Expected hours: No less than 42.5 per week
