**Main Purpose**
- To undertake general maintenance and upkeep of the Orwell Park grounds and pitches under the direction of the Head of Grounds.
- To complete a training course (vocational) and to attain the stated NVQ/Apprenticeship level 3 programme.
- To form part of the broader facilities team and support staff.

**Specific Responsibilities**
- Undertake routine grounds maintenance works as detailed on work schedules and as directed by the Head of department.
- Repair and maintain grass and astroturf sports facilities.
- Undertake routine maintenance to sports and gardening equipment under supervision.
- Drive vehicles and operate all relevant equipment as required for grounds maintenance.
- Help ensure that the School grounds are kept clean, tidy and secure at all times.
- Undertake various estate work related duties (e.g. boundary fencing, log splitting) as directed by the Head of department.
- To work in safe manner and fulfil all employee responsibilities under H&S regulations and the School H&S Policy and Plan.
- At all times fulfil the requirements of the school safeguarding arrangements and ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding and child welfare.
- Any other duties as requested by the Head of Grounds.
- Act as full member of the school staff and as an ambassador for the school.
- General tasks associated with preparing the School and grounds for School events.

**Skills and Experience**
- A full driving licence.
- Able to work out measurements e.g. of pitches and quantities such as seed and fertilisers.
- Ability to complete training courses such as PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates would be advantageous.
- A willingness to learn and to lifelong education/ skill acquisition and learning.
- Ability to complete courses and obtain licenses such as the Chainsaw licence.
- Ability to develop strong powers of judgement and decision making.

**Personal Attributes**
- Physically fit and healthy - able to undertake a range of manual tasks.
- Genuine liking for outdoor working throughout the year.
- Genuine interest in horticulture, sports facilities, conservancy, countryside pursuits and heritage.
- Willing to learn new skills and undertake training courses as necessary.
- Ability to work effectively both as part of a small team or unsupervised as necessary.
- Flexible approach to work and a willingness to take on new tasks.
- Ability to communicate with line manager, other members of the team, teaching staff, parents and pupils and at all times maintain the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.
- A team player in specific and broad terms (a member of grounds team, bigger support team, and whole school staff teams).

**Job Demands and Pressures**
- Requirement to work to time pressures eg turn round pitches at short notice, sometimes several times a week.
- Requirement to work outside in all weathers.
- Work as part of a small team in which reliability is a key work demand.
