Swansea Bay UHB are looking for a dynamic Matron to cover the regional Renal Services across South West Wales, based at Morriston Hospital. The post holder will work as a senior member of Renal Services which covers Swansea Bay, Hywel Dda and part of Cwm Taff Health Board areas.

This includes the following different clinical areas; Cardigan Ward, inpatient dialysis in all critical care areas, West renal unit, Liz Baker renal unit including acute dialysis area, renal transplant, vascular access for renal patients, anaemia team, renal OPD and renal day case area. An overview of satellite dialysis facilities in Hywel Dda and ongoing input / leadership into the expansion and building of units east of Swansea. We also have community services which include CKD education team, home therapies team (including HHD &PD) and onsite training.

The matron will be part of the renal senior triumvirate team, leading the team of nurses to deliver high standards of care with a patient centred approach.

If you have extensive experience in a nursing leadership role have a proven record of delivering high quality care for patients to enhance service users experience and promote positive health outcomes then we would like you to be part of our team.

- Operational management of renal services across South West Wales working with Directorate Manager, Clinical Lead / Director
- Ensuring the delivery of the required standards and continual improvement of the fundamental aspects of care, cleanliness and infection prevention and control
- Safe and effective use of nursing resources on a day to day basis in accordance with need and appropriate skill level within designated wards
- Timely, safe and effective transfer of care/discharge
- Development of person-centred approaches to care
- Ensuring positive patient experience, reduction in harm, waste and variation
- A culture that fosters empowerment, collaborative learning and continuous professional development
- Ongoing service development in ensuring a timely development of dialysis services to meet current and future requirements
- Delivery of safe and effective care within available resources including managing nurse / patient ratios
- Using PROMS & PREMS to better understand care and service needs
- Working with the Welsh Kidney Network as a commissioned service - participating in meetings, peer reviews, audits as needed

The Matron is responsible for South West Wales Renal Services as part of the wider Division within Medicine. The quality of the Health Boards clinical care and the safety of its patients are fundamental to its excellence and the Matron is responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence based, safe and effective nursing, infection prevention, safeguarding and patient flow standards within Renal.

The role will provide direct leadership to ensure that the ward / unit managers are able to implement the nursing and quality strategy and person-centred approaches to care, to deliver a nursing service that prioritise the care needs of patients and their families to enable a positive experience for patients and their families/cares. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of ward / unit managers and Band 6 / 7 CNS's within Renal in line with the Health Board’s values and behaviour framework of caring for each other, working together and always improving.

The post holder is expected to work with autonomy to provide highly specialised professional nursing advice to colleagues to ensure high standards of direct care delivery. This includes supporting systems for professional revalidation and performance management of ward / unit managers that are accountable for quality, safe care. This includes working with and supporting independent service providers across South West Wales.

Work to develop new models of service delivery in line with Welsh Clinical Network / Welsh Government policies and strategic direction

The post holder will be required to work across geographical sites within the service and as a member of the senior nursing team, will be clinically accountable and a point of contact on any issues which have potential to impact on nursing services regardless of service, division and hospital site they may be working.
