Your new role

National Highways has an ambitious net-zero carbon plan which includes a target of net-zero by 2030 for corporate carbon emissions. These emissions include electricity on the network, electricity within the estate, business travel and fleet, alongside somescope three emissions. As Senior Carbon Reduction Manager you would be responsible for the delivery of energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects across National Highways built estate to support this target.

It is a rapidly changingarea, with innovative technologies and solutions at the forefront and this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a difference. In the past few years, this role has completed a range of energy efficiency projects across the whole estate, installedEV charging infrastructure to support the switch to electric vehicles and undertook projects on innovative technologies to increase National Highways renewable energy generation amongst other responsibilities. The cost and carbon savings from these projectshave played their part in how National Highways is on track to achieve our carbon targets, and this opportunity is a key role to continue this.

National Highways is currently recruiting for a Senior Carbon Reduction Manager to join our team. This role will be responsible for the daily energy management activities collaborating with multidisciplinary teams by providing expertise and support in managingour energy consuming infrastructure more efficiently with focus on energy savings; cost enhancement; compliance and policy commitments. Acquiring capital funds for the delivery of capital projects and reducing operational costs. Working within the Energy andSustainability Team to promote and assist in the development and delivery of the Carbon Management Programme to support the key Corporate Carbon KPI during RIS 2 and continue this work to ensure National Highways achieves their net-zero carbon by 2030 targetfor corporate emissions, through year-on-year carbon reductions, with project development and delivery key to this.

What you’ll be leading on

1. Develop and deliver carbon reduction projects across National Highways estate.

2. Advising and supporting FM/Estates and the wider business on energy efficiency through site audits, evaluations, recommendations, scope of work development, solicitation of bids and compliance of project specifications.

3. Drive agreed targets in energy management and efficiencies in line with National Highways corporate Carbon KPI, and corporate Net-Zero target.

4. Working with building services technical managers and regional facilities managers to recommend measures to improve building performance, asset quality and assist in their development and deployment, making sure properties will perform well.

5. Delivering of energy efficiency projects via revising pricing/method

statements; liaising with contractors; site visits and reporting project performance to ensure the successful implementation and operations.

6. Enhancing energy cost with utility suppliers through benchmarking energy rates; price forecasting and reviewing non-commodity charges.

7. Reviewing our energy meter asset information and data and make improvements.

8. Reviewing and updating our water metering and the associated data and make improvements.

9. Undertaking water audits for improvements.

10. Implementing water efficiency projects.

To be successful

Preferred to have membership of a relevant professional body, e.g., CIBSE, Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Energy institute or similar.
Knowledge of Building Energy Management Systems (e.g., TREND, GridDuck).
Experience of conducting energy and water audits.
Experience of researching, analysing, interpreting, and presenting energy management information using spreadsheet/graphs and explain complex information in a way that is relevant and easily understood.
Experience and knowledge of the energy and utilities market.
Experience of developing and delivering energy efficiency / carbon reduction projects.
Knowledge and understanding of relevant energy-related policies, legislation, and initiatives.
