**Job Purpose and Overview**:
The main purpose of the role is to lead the shift team to ensure the production plan is achieved through the effective use of resources and production work flows. In addition, ensuring that efficiencies, safety and quality standards are met.

**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities**:
This role is responsible for the coordination and supervision of shift activities and people to ensure the successful achievement of the production plan and to:

- Provide senior technical support commensurate with Lead Operative: Machining (Senior Machinist) role/technical Level 3 competency on at least 2 or more machine types
- Manage the Production Operatives: Machining and Lead Production Operatives: Machining (Senior Machinist) within the shift team
- Liaise with Shift Co-ordinators, Production and Planning Leaders, Warehousing, Maintenance and other internal and external personnel to address/ resolve any issues or barriers that impact shift performance.
- Effectively engage and communicate the requirements of the business, empowering team members to continuously and proactively improve machining methods and business processes including;
**Co-ordinate and lead the shift team by**:

- Conducting shift “start up” meetings and tool-box talks
- Conduct shift handovers.
- Ensuring team members understand and comply with Company policies and procedures
- Ensuring team are trained and consistently comply with Health and Safety and PPE requirements
- Collate and process accurate daily work records and documentation
- Ensure LEAN and Standard Operating Procedures are embedded within the team
- Contribute to or lead ‘Continuous Improvement’ events
- Escalating issues in a timely manner to maximise shift performance and production plan.
- Ensure quality, maintenance and production records are completed each day (e.g TPM).

**Carry out various supervisory people management duties, to include**:

- Identifying training needs to upskill self and team promoting team effectiveness and flexibility
- Ensuring team members are trained, competent and safe to carry out the tasks allocated to them
- Conducting departmental/ local inductions for new starters, etc.
- Conducting skills/ competency assessments
- First point of contact for unplanned absence notification and Return to Work meetings
- Managing holiday requests from team members
- Providing informal constructive feedback directly to team members to build a high performing team
- Resolving people management or performance issues.
- Deputising/ Acting up for Production Team Leader, as required.

**Other**:
The role is based in a production/manufacturing environment working a 3-cycle weekly rotational shift pattern including night working and involves the operation of machinery
- Health and Safety and PPE requirements are also applicable for certain areas and tasks
- Needs to be physically fit due to the manual handling requirements of the role;including loading/unloading activities, retrieval and movement of materials and finished products of various weights and volumes and involves long periods of standing.
- Planning and supervision of interns, apprentices and work experience students as and when required.

**Location**: Pontypool, South Wales

**Hours of Work**: 37 hrs/ 5 days per week

**Shift Pattern**: 3 cycle rotational shift pattern including nights

Mornings: Monday to Thursday 6 am
- 2 pm, Friday 6 am - 1.30 pm

Afternoons: Monday to Thursday 2 pm - 10 pm, Fridays 1.30 pm - 9 pm

Nights: Monday to Thursday 10 pm - 6 am, Friday 9 pm - 4.30 am

**Skills/ Qualifications/ Experience**: provide senior level technical support and
- Time served apprenticeship with relevant CNC or engineering based qualification at HNC level or above. Or good standard of education plus extensive CNC knowledge, skills and experience
- HND or higher-level qualification in Mechanical/ Manufacturing Engineering is desirable
- Significant Setter experience operating (4/5 axis) CNC metal milling and turning machines
- Demonstrable senior machinist level experience within production/ manufacturing industry
- IT Literate; experience of various software control systems is essential
- Previous Supervisory/ Shift Lead experience is essential
- Qualification in Team Leading/ Supervisory Management or similar is desirable
