Birmingham, United Kingdom Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the maternity department for a Governance Midwife to join our Risk, Governance and Education Team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS (SWBH) Trust.

Do you have the skills and experience to provide a high level of specialised training and lead this role? If you feel you would like to be part of taking our service forward, then this could be the opportunity for you and we would really like to hear from you.

Post is fixed term contract for 12 months - please contact us if you want further details about this.

This role will require the post-holder to work at an operational and strategic level within the Maternity and Perinatal Directorate to deliver the maternity service governance and risk management agenda. Activities will include writing reports, investigations and monitoring action plans with provision of evidence. They will deputise for the Lead Midwife for Risk and Governance as required.

The post-holder will be required to provide assurance and ensure standards are met for all external regulatory organisations relating to safety, quality and key performance indicators specifically for maternity. They will lead with and report to outside agencies such as the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) and to contribute to CNST and Ockenden evidence requests.

The aim of the role is to enhance the quality and safety of maternity care, showing leadership in the management of risk within the departments and achieve consistency in practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

**We have three newly emerging strategic objectives**:
1. Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
2. Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
3. Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve live

Here at SWBH we pride ourselves on the way we support and nurture our colleagues and how we value progression. We are a friendly team, serving a demographically varied population. We currently care for approximately 6000 births every year and are proud of our multidisciplinary approach.

The CQC has rated our maternity services are rated as "Good" (July 2021).

We will be moving to state of the art facilities as part of our move to the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, due to open 2024.
