Following our successful performance in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, Teesside University is further investing in its research base to strengthen our academic excellence and research leadership in biosciences, social policy, health, culture and digital.

To ensure future sustainability and a pipeline of aspiring leaders we are launching these prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships for outstanding independent researchers aligned to our areas of excellence.

We are seeking to recruit academic excellence, evidenced by strong research outputs and ideally experience grant income. We are interested in expertise that compliments our research themes of:

- ‘People and Place’- focussing on place making around social innovation, public engagement, co-creation, arts, culture and creative digital industries.
- ‘Health and Wellbeing’- which spans biomedical and public health, rehabilitation, digital health and health inequalities.

The Fellowships include:

- A three-year fellowship period during which you will have a research-focussed workload and support to become an independent researcher.
- Membership of a relevant research centre and the VC Fellowship network.
- Opportunities to engage in our interdisciplinary research activities around the themes of Health, People and Place, and Net Zero.
- A mentor to support your research plans and preparation for future promotion.
- An individual development programme.
- Support from our Research and Enterprise Office to develop research funding proposals.
- Competitive salary and benefits package including access to pension schemes, flexible working policies, and salary sacrifice schemes.

The University has invested over £280m across the Campus Masterplan, including the £22m National Horizon Centre, a national centre of excellence for the biosciences, and the £16.5m Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre (due to open April 2023). Future developments include a £36m health and medical facility, BIOS (due to open in September 2023) and the £50m Digital Life building, a hub to support the innovation and skills needs of the region, which is due for completion in Autumn 2024. The University has a close relationship with the Tees Valley Combined Authority and is a key player in the regeneration of the region through its support for decarbonisation, biosciences, social policy, health, and digital.
