**Main Purpose of the job**:
1. To undertake in partnership with the local authority, schools, alternative provision providers and other relevant agencies assisting in their duties to fulfil statutory responsibilities to safeguard pupils and ensure regular attendance in school.

2. To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups.

3. To work closely with schools and alternative provision providers through a Service Level Agreement to provide support for children, young people & families through close multi-agency working.

4. To investigate offences relating to poor or non-school attendance and if necessary prepare prosecutions in relation to these offences.

5. To act as the Lead Professional for cases with additional and complex needs in regard to school attendance and social inclusion by way of early intervention, welfare referrals and pre-NEET support.

**Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties**:
1. To request and share information in line with the Data Protection Act and associated legislation.

2. To identify when other agencies are involved and initiating joint visits to provide a coordinated response.

3. To identify support plans for families, referring as appropriate to other agencies.

4. To make use of court and non-court disposals following the conclusion of investigations.

5. To respond to investigation referrals and act as an Investigating Officer and/or Officer in Charge, establishing offences being committed by visiting schools, confirming the facts and by taking witness statements.

6. To complete Prosecution Files once a decision has been made to instigate legal proceedings, which may also include acting as the Disclosure Officer. This also applies to cases of non-payment of Penalty Notices. To act as a witness at the Magistrates Court should it be necessary.

7. To act upon concerns in relation to the Education (Pupil Registration) Regulations 2006 including:

- the deletion of pupils from admission roll;
- notifications to the local authority of children who have been removed the admissions roll (Ad-Hoc);
- notifications to the local authority of children with poor attendance (Half Termly); and
- notifications to the local authority of children who have been "missing from education" for 10 days or more (Ad-Hoc).

8. To visit children and families to investigate when the local authority has received a notification relating to them.

9. To undertake register audits of local authority maintained schools and other education providers.

10. To implement and review improvement plans when issues of compliance arise following a register audit.

**Experience**
1. Significant experience working in a child-centred way, ensuring that indicators of child abuse and/or neglect are identified and action taken in a timely and appropriate manner in line with corporate procedure and national best practice.
2. Significant experience of multi-agency working, listening and empowering others in problem solving with a range of colleagues including external partners.
3. Experience of working in an enforcement/investigation related discipline.
4. Experience of working with vulnerable children and families.
5. Experience of providing effective support and challenge whilst maintaining a positive relationship as part of a day to day role.
