The team provide an early intervention approach across Central Bedfordshire supporting early identification for children with speech language and communication difficulties and their families. This is a rare opportunity to join our Early Communication Support Team (pre-referral/early intervention team) in Bedford Borough.

- Qualified with broad experience to bring to the table, desirable experience is 0-5’s
- Able to develop new ideas around early intervention, health promotion and training and be listened to.
- Someone who can prioritise and able to handle a diverse range of duties

**Job Purpose**:
The post holder will be an experienced Therapist and will work with the Early Communication Support Team within the field of preventative practice and early identification. They will support the delivery of SLT into Family Hubs and Children’s Centres in Bedford Borough. They will have day to day responsibility for promoting speech and language activities across Bedford and in designated Family Hub venues and/or for a caseload of pre-school children and their families in community settings/groups and home visits.

Main

**Responsibilities**:
To manage and prioritise a defined caseload and work with an appropriate degree of autonomy and independence, with regular support/supervision, with children and their families accessing Family Hubs.

To promote early identification, appropriate treatment/discharge/referral on, of children with speech and language difficulties.

To work in partnership with health and education colleagues to deliver an integrated support pathway for Family Hubs work under the Home Learning Environment and Communication strand.

To deliver and develop Universal key messages around SLCN.

To deliver training to enhance the skills of the wider workforce around Speech, Language and Communication.

To identify training needs, to develop packages/workshops around SLCN to deliver the training independently.

To identify, assess and diagnose communication impairments and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective treatment.

To assess, develop and implement speech and language therapy treatment and discharge as appropriate. To make a differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment, and design appropriate treatment based on analysis of profile of need seeking advice as appropriate.

To develop clinical skills and professional knowledge through experience, training and supervision.

Independently take students on placements for clinical teaching and supervision, including exam placement.

Be responsible for the supervision of SLT unqualified staff and volunteers.

Contribute to the support of newly and recently graduated SLT Staff.
