St Edmundsbury Cathedral is Suffolk’s Cathedral, situated in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, open and available to everyone. As a physical place it is the cathedra, the seat of the Bishop, a centre for worship and mission, and is a symbol of the aspirations of the wider diocese.

As a Welcome Assistant you will be:

- The face of the Cathedral, delivering a warm welcome to each visitor.
- You will be responsible for welcoming every visitor as they arrive, encouraging them to donate and to gift aid the donation, and to record digitally each visitor as they enter the Cathedral.
- Happy working flexibly with a wide range of stakeholders including pilgrims, cultural visitors and volunteers.
- Flexible to assist when required with front of house at events.
- Friendly and easy to talk to, someone who genuinely enjoys meeting and is interested in people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and of all ages.
- Respectable, reliable and responsible.
- Appreciative of and sympathetic to the Cathedral’s mission and ministry and heritage.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Offer a warm and friendly welcome to each visitor by providing excellent customer service, maintaining high standards of presentation front of house and working with management colleagues to facilitate group and education visits
- Maximising visitor generated income by encouraging visitors to donate and complete a Gift Aid form, encouraging visitors to buy tour tickets and guide books, encouraging visitors to the gift shop, supervising the effective functioning of the contactless and cash donation boxes, and following cashing up processes.
- Helping to deliver events by ticket checking and sales.
- Work collaboratively with front of house volunteers.
- Support the wider visitor experience programme by attending regular meetings with colleagues in the development and visitor experience and volunteer and events teams.
- Support the Cathedral’s Health & Safety policy to ensure the safety and security of the Cathedral and its visitors, acting as the eyes and ears on the ground and reporting any concerns to appropriate colleagues.

**Person Specification**
- Qualifications_
- Educated to at least GCSE level including English Language and Maths
- Experience_
- Experience of working in a customer or visitor facing role, such as in events or with volunteers or at a visitor attraction.
- Knowledge and Skills_
- A real passion and talent for talking with people and putting them at their ease.
- Confident and clear verbal communication skills.
- Good initiative and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn new skills.
- Good IT skills and confidence with till systems and handling cash.
- An ability to combine working in a team with being well organised and motivated.
- Ideally, a knowledge of working within a sensitive historic or faith environment.

**Terms and Conditions**
- **Job Title**: Welcome Assistant
- **Hours of work**: 15 hours per week (with occasional overtime opportunities) Please see the rota at the bottom to understand working shifts.
- **Salary**: £11.44 per hour
- **Annual Leave**:25 days plus bank holidays pro rata

**Probationary and notice period**

**Pension**

After 12 weeks’ service, the post-holder with be auto-enrolled into a pension scheme with the Church Workers Pension Fund.
