SEN Teaching Assistant role for an Music Graduate - Aspiring Music Therapist Romford - Education and Training - Music Graduate - Aspiring Music Therapist Romford

GSL have a Graduate SEN LSA role within a specialist school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental health challenges, may - The school is looking for sincere graduates with aspirations in Music and Art Therapy, it’s important to be able to qualify and disqualify the sectors for yourself.
The school uses Sonar Therapy for the children with severe PMLD or High Support Autism

Becoming a fully qualified Music or Art Therapist is a long process, we’re looking at 8-12 years, it’s important to know early which parts of it you have qualified and disqualified yourself.

**Location: Romford**
**Salary Scale: £85-£90 per day**
**Start Date: 02/05/2023**
**End Date: Mid July 2023 with the opportunity to extend in September 2023**
**Contract type: Long Term Contract, 5 days a week, 8:30 - 16:00**

This role will give you experience of working Neurological, respiratory, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and immune system problems are not uncommon for our learners and present barriers to their access to education.

The school focuses on a creative, secondary curriculum due to the very different learning levels of the students within each class and sector of school. This means you will have classes with students of different ages.

Many children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) present with significant communication difficulties which can make it hard for them to express their emotions and to have them acknowledged. However, children with severe anxiety can often develop a social connection through improvised Art and Music making. Art and Music therapy can be used to create meaningful connections with those who are often isolated and frustrated.

Do you know your future objectives within Social Work and Advocacy, advocating for children and vulnerable adults with low levels of learning, helping them have as much independence as possible, if it is viable. The students will benefit from Speech and Language, Art, OT and Music Therapy, different therapies will be suitable for each class and child.

You will get to see outside agencies at work, including Music, Art and Occupational Therapists come into school, as well as use your own Artistic and creative skills to aid learning and well-being.

If you have personal aspirations within Music Therapy, Child Development or Clinical Psychology LSA role in which to start with. This LSA role brings out holistic, therapeutic, and restorative qualities and skills, all important aspects of a future role as a Qualified Therapist. To gain access to the Art MA you desire, it is crucial to have 9-12 months of paid experience under your belt, you need to be able to qualify and disqualify these areas for yourself.

**Specialist SEMH Provision, Secondary focussed, 11-18
**Focus on Autism, High support Autistic Students (Use to be referred to cognitively, low support autistic, functioning students), there will students of higher ability throughout the school, with full mobility

**Dependent on the class and the student’s need, elements of personal care will be required
**SEMH, OCD, Dyslexia and a focus on Social, Emotional and Mental Health challenges
**Some children may have severe anxiety, having missed a lot of school - this is where the school’s outstanding differentiating and understanding each student’s EHCP comes into play
**Heavy focus on learning through play and focusing on marginal achievements, that can evolve into sustainable progress.
**Outstanding Teaching and support teams in place, a wonderfully holistic and positive atmosphere
**Music Therapists, Criminal Justice officers, Speech and Language specialists will come into the school from outside agencies, the school utilises many holistic and therapeutical approaches
**Classes of 3-6 pupils dependent on age, ability and the children’s specific need
