The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments. Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

You will support the management of risk in relation to offenders approaching their release dates through a structured multi-agency screening process. You will provide support and training to HMPPS in relation to intelligence and policing investigations. You will also support with CHIS recruitment in the prison estate, whilst supporting and managing covert tactics within the prison estate in line with the OPT requirements.

You are required to have completed the Working in Prisons National Course and National Prison Debriefing course, or be willing and able to undertake training. Additionally, you will have an up to date OST accreditation, as the role will undertake operational deployments.

**Responsibilities**
- Work in partnership with HMPPS and other custodial service providers and establish good working relationships to effectively manage good order and discipline across the prison estate.
- Support the management of prisoners who present a risk to our national security, commit or facilitate organised crime.
- Effectively gather and develop intelligence from HMPPS and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.
- Effectively share relevant intelligence with law enforcement and partner agencies.
- Utilise investigative resources to disrupt and effectively prosecute those offenders presenting the highest risk.
- Support the management of risk in relation to offenders approaching their release dates through a structured multi agency screening process.
- Provide support, training and expertise to HMPPS in relation to intelligence and policing investigations.
- Support CHIS recruitment within the prison estate.
- Support and manage the use of covert tactics within the prison estate in line with OPT requirements.

**Essential role based training**
- Foundation Intelligence Course.
- Prison Intelligence Officers Course.
- HMPPS Computer Applications.
- Police Computer Applications.
- Numerous multi force ICT requirements, including access to SECRET systems.

**Required knowledge/skills**
Essential
- Experience in a broad arena of intelligence including risk assessment, intelligence development and quality assurance.
- Experience of intelligence systems and procedures together with associated legislation.
- Experience in the submission of RIPA authorities and management of associated product.

Desirable
- Knowledge of Counter Terrorism organisational structures and processes.
- Previous exposure to covert operational tactics.
- Previous experience in risk assessment.
