We are excited to be recruiting an R&D Genetic Counsellor to work in The Synapse Centre for Neurodevelopment ESNEFT within our portfolio of research into neurodevelopmental disorders.

We are open to flexible and hybrid working requests.

This is an evolving role, working alongside our dynamic and enthusiastic teams

You will be joining the research and Development team at ESNEFT to help deliver our research portfolio. You should be familiar with providing a tailored, patient centred approach to a diverse community of patient and should be able to work autonomously and manage their own caseload of patients. There will also be opportunities to develop your own research.

Comprehend the medical facts, including the diagnosis, probable cause of the disorder, and the available management.

Appreciate the way in which heredity contributes to the disorder,and the risk of recurrence in specified relatives.

Understand the alternatives for dealing with the risk of recurrence.

Enable the patient and family to choose the course of action which seems most appropriate to them.

Make the best possible adjustment to the disorder in an affected family member and/or the risk of recurrence of that disorder.

The genetic counsellor manages an individual caseload which will involve seeing families in, counsellorled clinics, consultant-led clinics and occasionally in families own homes

Occasionally patients may be offered a pre-clinic home-visit to discuss their referral in preparation for a clinic appointment. Some families may be offered follow-up appointments in clinic or in their own home.

Following assessment, and whenever it is felt appropriate, the genetic counsellor will attend (as a cocounsellor) clinic appointments for families in his/her caseload.
