We are looking to appoint a Senior Phlebotomist to support the Senior Team and the Pre-Analytics Manager in delivering an effective Phlebotomy service to the Trust.

If you are a Phlebotomist with a minimum of 2 years' experience and keen to move the service forward we would like to hear from you.

Working a 7 day rota providing early (07:00h) and late (17:30) senior cover, with additional cover until 22:00 hours as and when required on rotation, you will be part of the Senior Team managing staff.

The Senior Phlebotomist is responsible for the supervision and the day-to-day management of work areas within the Phlebotomy Service of Wirral University Teaching Hospital.

The Senior Phlebotomist will lead and empower the Phlebotomy Team, to take first line managerial responsibility for the team and to perform venepuncture and veneole blood collection procedures as required.

Act as first line management for HR issues

Co-ordinate, prioritise and allocate the work of the department so that staff are used efficiently. This may include the use of Flexi-bank staff

Ensure excellent communication between the Phlebotomy team and multi-disciplinary teamTrain, supervise and appraise staff

Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff

Act as a role model, trainer and mentor to new staff

Ensure all local policies and guidelines are implemented and adhered to by all staff

Effectively manage contingencies that arise during the day to day running of the department.

Independently manage own workload and effectively delegate work to others

Set and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection, promoting high standards of health and safety

To act as a departmental link person for areas such as child protection, health and safety, disability awareness, information governance and clinical governance as required

Represent the department in meetings

Collection, recording and presentation of information or data for periodic review
