Job Description **Pre-school Assistant Bank Staff**

**This post may also include set hours until July 23 to cover 121 hours for Children with special educational needs. The applicant will not be the 121 cover but will cover the staff who support the children.**

- Responsible to: _ Pre-school Manager, Pre-school Deputy, Senior Assistant

**Purpose of the job**:

- To assist the management staff in the day to day running of the pre-school
- To provide a stimulating and varied programme of play and learning opportunities
- To ensure the safety and well-being of the children

**Main duties and tasks**:

- To assist in the setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment.
- To ensure high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times.
- To advise the Pre-school Manager, Deputy or Senior of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
- To ensure that any information received concerning the children and/or their families is kept confidential at all times.
- To actively encourage children’s progress in all areas of development, types and stages of play, by interaction and extension of play activities.
- To attend training as requested
- To support the work and beliefs of the pre-school by helping to create an environment that promotes open and equal opportunities for the children and adults.
- To work as part of a team and support colleagues.
- To encourage the participation and involvement of all parents of children attending the pre-school.
- To be flexible with the working practices of the pre-school.
- To be prepared to help when other areas of the pre-school may be short staffed, or with domestic duties or other duties as specified by the pre-school manager.
- To ensure good communication between staff and parent’s/carers.
- To work as a positive role model and member of the staff team.

**General**:

- To work within policies and procedures at all times and support staff to adhere to them.
- To keep records as required.
- To contribute to any quality assurance programmes.
- To maintain positive working relationships with relevant external professionals.
- To support and develop an environment which is inclusive for all and recognises and encourages diversity.
- To represent the setting professionally at all times, maintaining the settings integrity and being open to both giving and receiving feedback.
- To undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the Manager or trustees.

**Person Specification**
- Willingness to learn
- Previous experience of working with young children
- Knowledge of child development for children from birth to 5 years
- Knowledge of the early years foundation stage (EYFS)
- Knowledge of child protection procedures
- Good communication skills
- An understanding of play based approaches to children’s learning and development
- Commitment to equal opportunities
- Commitment to working effectively with young children and families
- Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships

**Desirable Criteria**
- Level 2 or 3 in early years childcare and education qualification or equivalent
- Current First Aid at work qualification
- Current level 2 food hygiene qualification
