Lead Associate

We are recruiting for a Lead Associate to join the Credit & Lending Authorisations department.
- Being the senior ‘portfolio lead’ for a particular firm type; including overseeing and contributing to the development of portfolio strategies and other Executive papers
- Undertaking quality assurance (‘QA’) of samples of case officer determinations, and leading on remedial training where required
- Leading working groups to deliver on ad hoc tasks and projects; managing bespoke information gathering and analysis of issues for presentation to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Helping to further develop the learning culture within the department through proactive identification and delivery of learning support
What does the role involve and what are the key responsibilities?
The Lead Associate will be responsible for:
- Working closely with, and deputising for, the team manager and playing an important part in the department’s leadership and management, particularly regarding training and development. Working with the Manager to develop and plan the team strategy and priorities.
- Leading projects; coaching others; resource planning; operational effectiveness
- Acting at their own initiative to contribute to the right determinations being made across the department.
- Providing coaching, oversight, and support to associates in the team and wider department.
- Line-managing associates(s), including performance management
- Building business and financial model capabilities of associates across the department, including through training and other learning support.
- Dealing with challenging and novel queries from firms and associates.
- Identifying cross-cutting trends and themes and reporting these via governance channels and local management.
- Role modelling Judgement, Engagement, Delivery and Self-Management and the FCA values.
The Lead Associate position is an ideal bridge for experienced, ambitious FCA associates that wish to take the next step in their career either in Authorisations or elsewhere in the FCA.
The role will provide exposure to a wide variety of firms and issues, and the opportunity for frequent interaction with senior FCA stakeholders. You can work with, learn from and influence a wide range of industry professionals, both internally and externally.

Skills/Experience Required
Minimum
- Strong written communication and experience in writing and presenting papers and strategies
- Experience of internal and external stakeholder management
- Experience with project management
Essential
- The ability to act on your own initiative, to make logical and timely decisions, cutting through complexity and seeing the big picture. Strong analytical skills: ability to think clearly and rigorously about how best to assess and validate conduct risks and reach robust judgements, including under pressure.

- Some experience of risk management and regulatory frameworks
Desirable
- Experience of working in firms that operate some of the business models of the firms we regulate
- Leading projects to time and quality.
- Experience working in a legal, financial or consultant capacity
- Leading the diagnosis and remediation of risks in firms so that the potential for harm is reduced.
- Knowledge of FCA regulations.
