Consultant Haematologist

The appointees will be Consultant Haematologists with a specialty interest and will be encouraged to develop this role. The posts will be based at the RUH. The post holders will be expected to contribute to our sub-specialised joint multi-consultant outpatient clinics. The post holders will also provide inpatient care on a rotating ward attending basis. The department has now developed a “hot week” Consultant attending role to provide a safer standard of clinical care to the haematology inpatients, the acute haematology service and GP liaison work. The appointees will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge, and in partnership with colleagues. The appointees will be expected to cover for colleagues when absent or on leave. A locum is not provided to cover annual or study leave.
Attendance at, and organisation of, the following departmental meetings is expected: monthly morbidity and mortality meetings, monthly consultant meetings, monthly transplant meeting and quarterly directorate meetings. There is a weekly journal club. In addition the following non clinical responsibilities are shared with consultant colleagues: lead for haematology laboratory, TYA lead, haemostasis and thrombosis lead, transfusion lead, drugs and therapeutics lead, clinical trials lead, audit, clinical governance, speciality tutor, Cancer Lead. The clinical lead for the department is rotated.
