Care Worker

**MAIN PURPOSE**

1.To meet the careand recreationneeds of the children with disabilities who are provided with short breaks. To ensure a safe and stimulating environment is maintained for the children. Being part of a team whose standards and work practice exceed the expectationsset out in thelegislation

2.To work as link worker, for an agreed number of children who are in receipt of short breaks liaising with the family to support the safe care of the young person,ensuring that each child/YPhas access to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated shortbreaksprogramme

3.To partake in any training which is specific to the role this will include administering medication, clinical proceduresand undertaking and reaching agreed standards intraining for using approved 'physical intervention’ techniques for supporting care andcontrol.

4.To ensure children’ s welfare is paramount and that child protection polices and protocols are adhered to at all times, by working within the parameters of safeguarding children, in line with Merton childcare and safeguarding systems and procedures andhealth and safety legislation

**Qualifications/Training**

1.Staffmust hold a relevant qualification at level 3 and a good standard of education, for example, GCSE with good written, spoken and communication skills

**Experience**

2.Experience ofdirect working,planning and delivering a range of activities and opportunities that provide a stimulating environment for childrenand young peoplewithSEN, disabilities and complex needs across a wide age range

3.To have experience of working in partnership with parents/families to improve outcomes for children/young people.

Shift patterns vary - its across a 7 day week, over the school holidays it’s a day shifts and weekends vary - hours are between 9 - 5 or so school holidays, similar hrs for weekends and after school in term time 3 - 8
