GENERIC INTRODUCTION:
The following information is furnished to assist staff joining the School to understand and appreciate the work content of their post and the role they are to play in the organisation. The following points should be noted:
1. Whilst every endeavour has been made to outline the main duties and responsibilities of the post, a document such as this does not permit every item to be specified in detail. Broad headings, therefore, may have been used below, in which case all the usual associated routines are naturally included in the job profile.

PRIME OBJECTIVES OF THE POST:
- To use a nurture approach to ensure that all children can access learning, participate effectively and achieve their potential.
- To provide 1:1 and small group support to meet a wide range of pupil needs.
- To support pupils’ emotional health and mental wellbeing. - To promote the principles of nurture provision and practice throughout school.
- To develop strong working relationships with staff and parents. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: (See Personnel Specification) EFFORT DEMANDS:
- Will recognise and challenge any incidents of racism, bullying, harassment, victimisation and any form of abuse of equal opportunities, ensuring compliance with the relevant school policy and procedures. - Will deal with any issues, immediate problems or emergencies that arise in line with school policies and procedures liaising with colleagues where necessary e.g. dealing with a sick, injured or distressed child.
- Acting as a role model, will establish productive and constructive working relationships with pupils, setting high expectations, motivating and interacting with them, being aware of their individual needs, supporting difference and ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop whilst responding appropriately.
- Will have the ability to cope with the requirements of the post, which may include working with pupils who have emotional/behavioural/physical difficulties. - Will use specialist learning skills/training/experience to support pupils. - Make decisions using initiative where appropriate within established working practices.
- Will contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
- Will support, uphold and contribute to the development of the schools Equality policy in respect of both employment issues and the delivery of services to the community.
- Will appreciate and support the role of other professionals
- Be vigilant and sensitive to any child protection/safeguarding concerns that arise, reporting any concerns to the designated officer in line with school policy and procedure. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide pastoral support for pupils, attending to their social, emotional and mental health needs and demonstrating nurture principles towards them.
- Identify existing and potential barriers to learning and engage strategies to help overcome those barriers.
- Support the schools’ provision for pupils with additional needs.
- Develop a programme of 1:1 or small group support sessions and activities for pupils to attend to their SEMH needs, as well as having a flexible approach to providing on-the spot support for those who need immediate assistance.
- Be a positive role model for pupils, establishing strong and productive relationships with them.
- Take a relational approach to the management of behaviour, supporting pupils with regulation and holding restorative discussions where appropriate.
- Carry out interventions as appropriate.
- Attend and participate in regular meetings, with staff, parents and outside agencies. - Participate in training and other CPD as required.
- Supervise pupils as and when required both in and out of the classroom, including on trips and visits.
- Make clear and accurate records to support the whole school approach to safeguarding. - Working closely with SENCO and class teachers, create and contribute to pupils’ individual support plans.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times. - Work with the Safeguarding Team to support with child protection referrals, including Early Help assessments and plans.
- May be required to act as a teaching assistant or lunchtime supervisor on occasion in the absence of the regularly timetabled member of staff. E
