**JOB PURPOSE**:
Seeking to engage a counselling supervisor to supervise student counsellors’ who counsel two clients per week. The ethical framework in which Cardiff Minds counselling adheres to is the ‘British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy’ (BACP), and in accordance with BACP requirements Cardiff Minds student counsellors are required to undertake a minimum of one and a half-hours of supervision per calendar month, with supervision every two weeks. The contract comprises three service elements, which are:
- GROUP SUPERVISION: The group is for two hours per month (as the number of people contracted to each group is four or less, this means each member of the group can claim one-hour supervision).
- ONE-TO-ONE SUPERVISION: Two weeks after the group supervision a 30-minute one-to-one top up session is provided.
- ADDITIONAL SUPERVISION: - Cardiff Mind provides three additional one-hour one-to-one supervision per year to cover any additional needs, such as safeguarding/duty of care issues, to complete placement documentation, etc

The main theoretical orientation that underpins the counselling practised at Cardiff Mind is **Person Centred, and for** the supervision to be appropriate the student counsellors must be able to receive supervision from a **Person-Centred **perspective.

**SUPERVISOR’S SPECIFICATION/EXPERIENCE**
- Hold a professional counselling qualification, minimum of a Diploma in counselling or psychotherapy.
- Have the relevant experience of supervising counsellors working with adults who are experiencing mental health problems.
- Have at least three years of post-qualification supervision experience.
- Accredited with the BACP.
- Experience of group and one-to-one supervision.
- Current DBS check.

**CORE DUTIES**
- Ensure that an individual contract is agreed with the student counsellor, which will allow them to present and explore their work honestly and openly.
- Ensure that the student counsellors client work is safe, competent, and ethical, and that you have no major concerns in relation to standard, quality, or any other aspects of their practice.
- Provide feedback to the student counsellor about specific areas of their practice, and areas for future development.
- Maintain clear and explicit professional boundaries in respect of student counsellor’s client work.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Abide by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical framework when supervising and to adhere to Contractual rights and obligations to Cardiff Mind together with our philosophy of working.
- Inform the counselling coordinator of all relevant counsellor/supervisee feedback.
- Cardiff Mind require legible written record keeping of supervision issues and action points, access to anonymised notes of supervision sessions, attendees and key action points agreed collectively or individually, and must be communicated in writing and should be available if requested by the organisation.
- If a student is performing below acceptable standards of competence, they should be offered a strategy on how to improve. Students should be fully supported and informed what is required to make the necessary improvements. Evidence should be provided that these discussions have taken place by exchange of written material and /or contemporaneous notes, informing the counselling coordinator of any specific concern.
- Inform the counselling coordinator if you or your supervisee feels unable to work together, following discussion at a supervision session.
- Provide and complete supervision reports for trainee counsellors, when requested.
- Inform the counselling coordinator if you believe that the code of ethics has been broken, including any issues surrounding safeguarding etc.
- Inform the counselling coordinator of non-attendance by a counsellor - if the counsellor has not completed their hours under BACP guidelines.
- Notify the counselling coordinator and counsellors if you are unable to attend a supervision group, giving as much notice as possible and whenever feasible rearranging the session.

**REMUNERATION ARRANGEMENTS**
- Payment for work undertaken will be made in response to a monthly invoice. The price will be at a fixed rate of £45 per hour. The invoice should provide details of the sessions held during the period and any exceptional items.
