**Apprentice Greenkeeper**

**Heswall Golf Club, Wirral**

Heswall Golf Club is a private 18 hole members Golf Club, established in 1902, on the Wirral Peninsula with stunning views across the Dee Estuary to Wales.

As such, no prior greenkeeping experience is required but applicants should have the following personal qualities and skills:

- A desire to work outdoors
- Be practically minded (especially mechanically)
- Have the ability to work in a team
- Have an interest in the preparation and maintenance of a golf course
- Have a keen eye for detail
- Be flexible, organised and self-motivated
- Be reliable, punctual and conscientious
- A driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one in the near future would be advantageous
- An interest in golf would be preferable but not essential

Desired Qualifications But Not Essential:

- 4 GCSEs, including Maths and English at grades A* - C (9-3) or Functional Skills equivalent. Evidence of qualifications will be required.

Applicants should consider the following:

- You need to be physically able to meet the demands of this role
- The job requires early starts from 5-6am in summer time
- The job necessitates working outdoors in all types of weather and conditions.

Key Tasks (under supervision), include:

- Assisting the other green staff in maintaining the golf course to the highest standard
- Cutting greens and tees
- Bunker maintenance
- Tee setup (divoting, litter picking and general surface preparation. Emptying bins and topping up ball washers)
- Learning general machinery maintenance skills
- Strimming
- Land drainage
- Golf course construction skills

Once more competent in the job you will be trained in the use of tractors, diggers, other types of ride on mowers and other green keeping equipment; to maintain machinery and develop knowledge and understanding of all Green keeping principles and practices, including course preparation, presentation, mowing and fertilisation.

Hours of work will be 06:00 - 14:00 in summer and 07:00 - 15:00 in winter. Work days will be Monday, Wednesday to Friday with Tuesday given as an education day for college work. If all college work is up to date, then you will be required to work Monday to Friday.

Overtime is available if you are over 18 years old.
