Burton Latimer, United Kingdom Executive Network Group Full time

HSE Recruitment are working with a manufacturing business going through exceptional growth, who are looking for a HSE Manager at their site in Kettering, Northampton.
The role sits on the senior middle management team and reports into the Operations Manager and a dotted line into the MD. The support and desire to improve is there at the top and the shop floor are receptive to change and want to be a part of the journey. The previous and current growth they are experiencing is really positive, but it also makes for a challenging, fast paced environment with changing needs, and with that, they need a senior management team who are flexible and adaptable.
As such this is a very hands on health and safety management position, it’s about getting out onto the shop floor, working closely and collaboratively with the other managers and supervisors, managing the needs and demands of the different stakeholders on site. They know they are not reactive enough and creating a more proactive plan and strategy for the site will be an important part of the role.
The role is titled HSE and Facilities Manager but there is only a small amount of facilities management which we can discuss. There are improvements to be made around environmental and sustainability as well, but H&S is the focus.
Responsibilities include:

- To produce and report HSE metrics and performance against targets to the Management Team; to coordinate and carry out HSE associated actions to enable targets to be met.
- To develop safe working practises and processes in coordination with the Production Engineering Team and the Production Supervisors. In doing so to identify opportunities for improvements.
- To work with the Production and Service Team Leaders to share knowledge and best practise, advise and coordinate risk assessment of new processes and tools, and to progress the HSE culture on the shop floor.
- To drive the philosophy of safety ownership throughout all levels of the organisation, partially through robust and in-depth internal audits.
- To ensure that all work completed complies with relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation and policy.
- To promptly alert line and functional management to significant accidents and incidents.
- Manage facility functions, identifying and actioning remedial concerns within the building and externally.

Person Specification:

- A minimum of a NEBOSH Certificate but it would be desirable that you hold or are working towards a Diploma in Health & Safety.
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a H&S role so you have the experience to manage the H&S Function autonomously. We are open to someone taking a step into their first management role or an experienced manager who is still hands on.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- We need someone adaptable, driven, engaging and enthusiastic in their approach.
- Someone hands on, supportive and patient in what is an immature culture at the beginning stages of change but moving in the right direction, who can set a clear plan, articulate the goals and is organised and clear with how to get there.
