**This assignment is only available to recently completed or current University of Southampton Post Graduate Research Students (PGRs), preferably those who are at least 6 months into their studies.**

**Job Purpose**:
Postholder(s) will work with the Doctoral College PGR Development Team (CHEP) to support ongoing projects in preparation for the 2023-2024 academic year. The postholder(s) will contribute to mentoring initiatives, design and review of PGR training materials, and development of a PGR training brochure as well as reviewing current methods of communicating training provision.

**Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities**:

- Undertake administrative tasks to further contribute to the development and implementation of CHEP and Doctoral College mentoring schemes.
- Consult with PGRs across faculties to review and feedback on design of PGR training materials, including workshops and online learning resources.
- Contribute to development of PGR training brochure in collaboration with CHEP and Doctoral College colleagues and review existing communication of provision.
- Conduct background research on mentoring schemes and assess where elements of best practice may be adopted in a Southampton-specific context.

**Essential Skills**:

- Recently completed or current doctoral research (PGR) student with the University of Southampton with good knowledge of qualitative AND/ OR quantitative research methods.
- Able to demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of relevant work systems, equipment processes and standard IT packages.
- Knowledge of research ethics and ERGO.
- Able to effectively organise allocated work activities and assist in the effective organisation of non-standard tasks and events.
- Ability to analyse data and present summary data clearly.
- Able to solve a range of problems by responding to varying circumstances, whilst working within standard procedures.
- Able to explain procedures and provide assistance where necessary.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Experience of conducting focus groups and surveys AND/ OR statistical analysis of data.
- Knowledge and experience of using relevant analytical software (for example SPSS or NVivo).

**Special Requirements**:
Current PGR students will need confirmation from their supervisor that they can take on this work. The team works in a hybrid capacity and therefore applicants must have access to Microsoft Teams and be prepared to work remotely if necessary.
