The appointment is for a full-time Consultant Physician in Cardiology with an interest in Electrophysiology / Devices and is a new post. Applications are invited from Full time, Part time and Job Share applicants. If a person is appointed as a part-time or job share position modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
The post holder will work with the existing Consultants to develop services in Cardiology and arises from increasing demand for services. This post is designed to support electrophysiology services, in collaboration with local tertiary centre colleagues at Imperial. This is an exciting time for the service with a new diagnostic centre planned for the West Middlesex Site and an increasing innovation and research programme.
We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.
Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex - in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
Cardiology services fall within the recently formed Medical Division. The Cardiology department is part of the outpatient’s area which comprises of all medical and surgical outpatient areas in addition to diagnostic and imaging services. The inpatient ward (Syon 1 on West Midd site, AAU on the Chelsea site) provides care for all cardiology patients including those who require non-invasive ventilation and step down patients from ITU/HDU. Our catheter lab opened in 2016 and currently performs a range of coronary procedures including shock wave, IFR/ FFR/ IVUS and brady pacing. We undertake around 1500 procedures per annum.
The cardiology service is involved in local and regional projects designed to modernise and improve outpatient services, some of which have received national recognition. At present the main focus of the directorate is to redesign services around the needs of the patient along Ambulatory care and digital pathways.
