**Interim EHO Food Inspection - Planning, Housing & Heath**

**Pay Rate: £43.69 per hour PAYE**
**This opening assignment is for 2 months **The purpose of the role is to undertake inspections, investigations and any other duties of a like nature and level of responsibility covering any of the functions of the Planning, Housing & Health unit whilst working in the Commercial (Food Safety/Health and Safety/Infectious Disease) Team.
**Key Receptibilities**:

- Perform duties covering any aspect of the Unit's work, especially in regard the inspection of premises, processes, plant and investigation of incidents.
- Investigate/ respond to requests for service and take the appropriate action to deal with them.
- Direct and monitor the actions of any technical staff assigned to him/her.
- Provide consultations to other Units on matters affecting their work e.g. Planning and Building Control observations.
- Undertake such research and monitoring and provision of information and statistics as required from time to time.
- Be authorised in his/her own right to take action under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Food Safety Act 1990 and associated legislation.
- Attend Court proceedings or other inquiries on behalf of the Authority when required to do so.
- Work outside the normal hours of work as and when required for the proper execution of the Authority's duties.
- Monitor and supervise any contractors engaged by the Unit.
- Prepare and present reports at committee. Represent the Unit/Authority at meetings, committees or other groups.
- Organise and conduct promotional activities, e.g. talks, seminars.
- Undertake formal/informal sampling in accordance with adopted protocols.
- Work in other sections of the Unit, as required.

**Qualifications**:

- BSc in Environmental Health/Diploma Institute of Environmental Health.
- Fully qualified Environmental Health Practitioner and hold the Certificate of Registration by the Environmental Health Registration Board, CIEH Register of Chartered Environmental Health Practitioners or Register of Food Control Officers and hold professional qualifications specified in the Food Law Code of Practice.
- Hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

**Skills & Experience**:

- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Satisfy the full range of competency standards for Local Authority Health and Safety Inspectors;
- Satisfy the qualification and competency standards for Food Law Enforcement Officers as detailed in the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice;
- Highly developed inter-personal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in stressful and potentially hazardous situations.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
