The Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care sits within the Directorate of Critical Care and Surgery, which provides Theatres anaesthetic, Acute and Chronic Pain, and Critical Care and Critical Care Outreach Services at the Croydon University Hospital site in the north of the Borough of Croydon.
There are ten main operating theatres (Croydon Elective Centre), four theatres in the Emergency Surgical Centre (CEPOD & Trauma) and two obstetric theatres, covering a range of surgical specialities, including major colorectal, ENT, spinal surgery, orthopaedics and trauma, and gynaecology. Additionally the department provides anaesthetic services to Endoscopy/Interventional Radiology and the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.

This is a new substantive Consultant post. The majority remit of the post holders will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing expansion of the Critical Care Service, as well as
programmed activities in Anaesthesia/Theatres or Base Speciality. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching
and training of junior staff.

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon.

**These include**:

- Croydon University Hospital
- Purley Hospital
- The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath
- Community bases at Purley, Sanderstead, New Addington, Broad Green, Woodside
- A minor injuries unit in New Addington

The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 3,500 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are relatively young with a high level of ethnic diversity.
