**Darlington Mind is seeking to recruit a part time Sessional (school based) Counsellor to join our busy team, supporting Children and Young People aged 11 to 18 years with their mental health and emotional resilience.**

1. To provide one to one counselling and other support sessions for young people experiencing mental health difficulties.

2. To work as part of a team of counsellors to deliver individualised therapy interventions, in schools / colleges and other settings, to support young people dealing with anxiety, depression and other emotional issues.

3. To deliver mental health awareness workshops to small groups of children and young people in an educational setting and other of site venues.

4. Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with young people, using the three core principles of counselling: Empathy, Congruence and Unconditional Positive Regard.

5. Work remotely in participating schools / colleges, building strong links and establishing good working relationships with school staff and teachers.

6. Reporting directly to the Service Coordinator, to ensure they are kept up to date on all matters pertaining to your work.

7. Ensuring the young person is fully aware of the confidentiality, the triple harm clause, and sharing of information in the counselling contract.

8. Work ethically with each young person referred to you, ensuring best practice to meet their individual needs and signposting to other support as required.

9. Maintaining accurate and up to date case notes and files, and ensuring their safe handling and storage.

10. Ensure compliance with Darlington Mind Safeguarding Procedures and that all safeguarding concerns are reported immediately to the designated safeguarding lead in school and logged with Darlington Mind.

11. Use only Darlington Mind approved assessment tools in sessions to monitor progress and appropriateness of therapeutic support.

12. To work within Darlington Mind’s Confidentiality and other relevant policies, and follow the guidance of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy

13. Participate in clinical and management supervision, team meetings, training and CPD as required.

**Person specification**

**Post: Children and Young People's Sessional School Based Counsellor**

1. A skilled and experienced Counsellor, qualified to Level 4 in Counselling, or above from an accredited provider, with a minimum of 100 hours supervised practice.

2. Membership with a recognised professional body, such as the BACP.

3. Experience in working with young people aged 11 - 18 years old, with mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties, in an educational setting.

4. A good knowledge of the difficulties facing young people in all aspect of their daily lives.

5. A firm understanding of Safeguarding in respect to personal responsibility and pertaining to working with Children and Young People.

6. Willingness to work remotely in schools, colleges and other venues. Must be able to work without close supervision, but acknowledge your own limitations and know when to ask for support from other team member or Service Coordinator.

7. Possess a working knowledge of local mental health services and how to access them and/or how to find out

8. A full UK drivers license is required as is access to a car for work

A satisfactory enhanced DBS check is required for this role along-with two satisfactory references.
