The National Archives collects and secures the Government record both current and future, preserving it for the Nation and making it accessible. Our collection spans almost 1000 years and is one of the largest in the world, containing over 11 million historical records from medieval parchment to modern papers, digital files, datasets, websites, tweets and computer code. The National Archives (TNA) is the archive of government and archives sector lead for local authorities and places of deposit.

The Strategic Compliance team sits within the Public Access and Government Services Directorate providing advice, guidance and services to our government colleagues to fulfil their obligations under the Public Records Act and ensuring transferred Public Records are made accessible.

The Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) Practice Adviser role will be responsible for providing support and developing engagement with all Public Record Bodies (including Public Inquiries and short term bodies) to support their understanding of their statutory obligations under the Public Records Act. The role will provide practical support to the KIM lead to deliver an expert, informed and trusted service including technical and practical advice and guidance to influence and support the development of appraisal and selection methodologies to aid transparency and accountability for the selected Public Record. This is a varied role, which offers considerable scope for personal and professional development; there is access to the Civil Service training programme as well as development opportunities supported in-house at TNA. There is a strong team working culture at TNA, supported by robust hybrid working technology, enabling you to bounce ideas off colleagues and share best practice as well as working on your own initiative, whether you are working in the office or at home.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site.

SC-level Security Clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance is mandatory for this role and requires that you have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. The length of required residency may depend on individual circumstances.

**How to apply**:
**Essential criteria**:

- A good understanding of information management principles, practice and technology, with the ability to horizon scan for innovative ways of appraising, selecting, and sensitivity reviewing records
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the conveyance of unfamiliar ideas in accessible terms through both written advice and guidance and in person
- Demonstrable experience of delivering guidance and training to support learning, reflective of equality and diversity needs
- Ability to collate information from multiple sources to support decision-making and deliver high quality products while prioritising and managing workloads
- A good understanding of stakeholder relationship management, with the ability to communicate openly and build strong trust-based relationships with stakeholders, using diplomacy, tact and understanding of others’ priorities
- A positive and pro-active approach, able to work individually or collaboratively to deliver work at pace, sharing knowledge and learning from others to research, analyse and problem solve complex issues

**Desirable criteria**:

- Understanding of machine learning in an information/data management context to support appraisal, selection and sensitivity review and a demonstrable willingness and aptitude to develop your skills and knowledge in this area.
