We are looking for a community ranger to independently co-ordinate and autonomously deliver to the local communities around Drumbrae, with a second location to be confirmed, a high quality, self-starting & comprehensive community engagement function on behalf of the Forest, Peat and Rural Land Manager, ensuring that all work undertaken is processed efficiently, completely and delivered within the required timescales. To also engage with University of Edinburgh students and staff to promote engagement with, and use of the forests and land assets.

This post is a mix of remote working from sites across Scotland and occasional on-campus working. Ideally the post holder will be located in Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire or South Perthshire to be the local contact for the University forestry land holdings at Bridge of Allan and another to be confirmed. The occasional weekend or evening work will involve taking calls and liaising with emergency services to manage any incidents on the two sites. If necessary, this may need a site visit to assist the services (and will include travel time). This time can be taken as time off in lieu or overtime. No additional work will be expected over the Christmas holiday period while the University is closed.

**The Opportunity**:
Purposes of the role include liaising with project colleagues, partners and the communities using Drumbrae, with a second location to be confirmed, to promote new initiatives in carbon reduction, teaching & learning, tourism & leisure, greenspace health and rural land management, as necessary to underpin and sustainably and sensitively deliver the University’s carbon reduction strategy and goal of becoming a carbon net zero university by 2040.

**Your skills and attributes for success**
- Valid UK drivers licence
- Experience of high quality and effective community engagement, with a particular focus on projects in a rural setting
- An ability to interact and build good working relationships with colleagues and members of the public from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Self-motivating and able to effectively and efficiently plan and prioritise your workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Clear willingness and enthusiasm to embrace change and help lead innovative approaches to land management in order to achieve overall carbon reduction goals.
