The post holder will provide a specialist family and systemic therapy service to children, adolescents and families referred to the Feeding and Eating Disorders Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This service will encompass out-patient, day patient and in-patient (Mildred Creak Unit) settings. The post holder will also be working with a number of clinical teams in the Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and in paediatric settings across the wider hospital. The post holder will ensure the systematic provision of a high quality systemic family therapy service to patients within the above services, providing specialist systemic family therapy assessments, formulations and evidenced based interventions on an inpatient, day patient and outpatient basis.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the flexible delivery of family therapy services, across the Trust, in response to new developments and organisational changes. Main duties and responsibilities Clinical: To be responsible for providing a family therapy service to the Feeding and Eating Disorders Service, Mildred Vreak Unit and also within the Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health as required. To provide a family therapy service to paediatric specialties across the hospital as required. To provide complex and detailed family assessments and assessment reviews, using the collection and processing of complex data, formulating it using a wide range of family systems, psychological and psychiatric theoretical models under a family systems theoretical umbrella.

To provide specialist family and systemic therapy to children, young people and their carers/families on a short term and longer term basis as clinically indicated. To assess risk in the children or families within caseload (e.g.: safeguarding or risk of self-harm). To be responsible for implementing a range of systemic psychotherapy interventions for children, young people and their carers/families and refining these at each stage of treatment. To work autonomously and independently, as well as collaborating closely with colleagues, as each clinical and team situation requires.

To convene, and attend multi-professional meetings as appropriate, including attendance at child protection case conferences. To maintain an appropriate, defined caseload in discussion with clinical supervisor and Consultant Family Therapist. To maintain clinical records and summaries consistent with confidentially professional practice and in accordance with the Health Services Record Act. To have an up to date knowledge of the key legislative framework and the ethical issues concerning the provision of health, welfare, and mental health services to children, adolescents and their carers/families.

To maintain the highest professional standards via appropriate CPD and in line with the requirements of the UKCP and Professional Standards. Teaching, training and supervision 1. Provision of specialist consultation to GOSH and community child and adolescent outpatient services who are providing services to the child/young person. 2.

Responsibility for lower banded family therapists/family therapy trainees/honorary staff on placement as required. Providing supervision/consultation to work with families undertaken by members of the multidisciplinary team having less training in family therapy. 3. Provision of skilled informal and formal teaching, training and supervision of Junior Doctors and other multidisciplinary colleagues within Psychological Services.

4. To provide teaching, training and consultation at local, national and international levels via Study Days and Conference presentations. 5. To attend and contribute to CPD/academic meetings within Psychological Services.

6. To receive regular clinical supervision from a more senior clinical family therapist in accordance with Association for Family Therapy guidelines. Where appropriate, to receive additional consultancy from senior professional colleagues. Management, policy and service development 1.

To undertake the coordination of cases held jointly with other GOSH professionals as required and to appropriately inform the service leads about the work and outcomes. 2. To participate in service development and policy making within Psychological Services and wider hospital as appropriate. 3.

To contribute to Psychological Services and Trust wide development and planning with particular reference to child and family policies within the Hospital as appropriate. 4. To organise, convene and minute multidisciplinary network meetings as appropriate. 5.

To fulfil administrative responsibilities for work done, including note-taking, expert report writing to outside referral agents and statistics required by the Department/Hospital. 6. To provide excellent communication using verbal and written skills both within and outside the Hospital, so as to facilitate understanding of and information access about the work of DCAMH.
