Our Surgical Assessment Unit is a busy proactive area specialising in Emergency treatments and assessments for a variety of Surgical specialities. We are an established team and although it is a very busy and demanding ward we work closely as a team and deal with the day to day pressures with positivity and high levels of energy.

We love making a difference and working together as a close family to gain the rewards of making our patients journey enjoyable and successful. In order to do this we are looking for Healthcare Assistants with a genuine interest in acute Surgery to join us.

Experience of working with patients in a hospital setting would be beneficial.

You will need to be flexible in your working hours to work shifts/unsocial hours including nights as required

You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the Team Leader/Nurse in charge including: assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, stoma care, measuring & monitoring patient output, removal of catheters, moving and handling, use of mobility equipment, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity, Ensuring patient safety, taking & collecting specimens, taking and recording physical measurements observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings.

Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.

**Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg**: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars

Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan.

Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies.

Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.

Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals

Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Maintain and develop own competence

Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then Report the outcome to line manager. Record keeping
