**Job Title**:Cover Supervisor**

**Job purpose**:To provide class supervision of students when the teacher timetabled for the class is absent

To support the school in the implementation of its aims and objectives as specified in Department and School Development Plans

**Post Holder**:
**Pay Scale**: Surrey PS6

**Hours**:30 hours per week / 39 weeks per year / 8.00 - 3.00pm (includes unpaid lunch & break times)

**Responsible to**: Deputy Headteacher

**Accountable for**:

- The supervision of students in classrooms when the teacher timetabled for the class is absent.
- In the event of cover supervision not being required, providing administrative and lesson support to nominated departments within the school.

**Key accountabilities**

You are required to:

- Supervise students in lessons.
- Take morning registration
- Ensure that the work provided for the students is delivered and completed as per the teacher’s lesson plan.
- Provide administrative and learning support to nominated departments within the school.
- Invigilate internal and external examinations

**Key Tasks**:
To undertake the effective management of the following tasks:

- Liaise on a daily basis with the Cover administrator.
- Supervise students in classrooms with the work left in accordance with the School Policy.
- Implement the school’s Behaviour for Learning policy.
- Help develop a pleasant and welcoming learning environment for all.
- Oversee the collation of resources needed in order to deliver the covered lesson.
- Communicate effectively the work set by the teachers to the students.
- Create an orderly and purposeful learning environment in which students can complete the set work.
- Supervise entry and departure of students in accordance with school policy.
- Respond to students in relation to general queries about the set work.
- Collect in completed work after the lesson and return to the appropriate member of staff if requested to do so
- Provide brief pro forma led feedback to the member of staff regarding the cover lesson
- Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies in the classroom in accordance with the school policy
- Accompany visits and field trips as requested under the direction of the lead teacher/ organiser

- Implement School Policies.
- Meet deadlines.
- Attend scheduled department and school staff meetings and take part in Open Evenings.
- Participate in the Appraisal process ensuring that the Appraisal Review cycle is completed annually by the set deadline.
- Meet the requirements for practice and conduct set out in the WCSC Support Staff Standards (see attached)
- Take responsibility for own professional development, setting objectives for improvements.
- Personally keep up to date with developments and new ideas related to your role and share these where appropriate with department colleagues.
- Maintain a personal development portfolio of evidence to support the Appraisal process.
- Participate in the In Service Training programmes organised by the school and other relevant bodies
- Participating in activities to promote liaison with other schools and agencies.

**Other specific duties**
- Play a full part in the life of the school community at The Winston Churchill School, support our vision and values and encourage staff and students to follow this example
- Undertake any other duty as specified by the Surrey Pay and Conditions Document not mentioned above.

**Support Staff Core Expectations**

All members of The Winston Churchill School support staff are expected to contribute to the life of the school over and above the duties particular to their role. These core tasks could include:

- Switchboard/Reception cover
- Break/lunchtime supervision
- Minibus driving
- Helping out in other support departments during sickness absence or at peak times
- Providing cover in the school’s Learning Resource Centre
- Assisting during tutor periods and with class registration
- Sharing expertise with/training other members of staff

We recognise that support staff have a wide range of previous experience, not only in the workplace, but also other skills and interests, and staff are actively encouraged wherever possible to be involved in supporting student learning and enrichment experiences. This is likely to be through involvement in school clubs and extracurricular activities but could also include the sharing of particular expertise within the classroom environment.

Support staff should recognise that, as the school moves forward, job roles will inevitably develop and change their focus; staff need therefore to be flexible in their approach to accommodate the changing needs of the school and to participate fully in professional development which supports this.
