Buggy Driver Volunteer

Can you spare 4 hours a week?
Are you aged 21 or over with a full driving licence and 3 years’ experience?
Are you able to support patients at Northampton General Hospital with this fantastic service?
Our buggy service and discharge car helps our patients and visitors get around the hospital and helps to support getting discharged patients’ home. The role offers a vital service in helping patients with mobility issues, making it easier to access hospital services and helping the discharge team get patients back home.
All the driver roles are hugely rewarding for our volunteers and full training will be provided for all roles.
To always work closely with another volunteer to support the discharged patient safely to the car and into their homes.
Undertake visual safety checks at the start
To greet and chat with patients or visitors on arrival and provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
Support patients to access the buggy, ensuring the seatbelt is secured.

**Indoor & Outdoor Buggy**:
To greet and chat with patients or visitors on arrival and provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
Support patients to access the buggy, ensuring the seatbelt is secured.
To transport visitors to their appointments / wards.
Undertake visual safety checks at the start of the shift, reporting any issues immediately.
Only driving in designated areas.
**Car Discharge**:
To always work closely with another volunteer to support the discharged patient safely to the car and into their homes.
Undertake visual safety checks at the start of the shift, reporting any issues immediately.
Ensure that seat belts are always worn.
To greet and chat with the patient discharged providing a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, putting the patient at ease on their journey home.
Be courteous and considerate of other road users.
Buddy - to provide support to the driver with all their duties (apart from driving)
