**Senior Platform Engineer**

**Glasgow - Hybrid**

Specifically, we seek a Senior Platform Engineer with experience of working with large cloud estates but has some previous knowledge / experience of providing technical leadership to a team.

**As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will**:

- Help to lead a team of platform engineers and assist with prioritisation and communication to other digital stakeholders.
- Implement high-level technical requirements in a reliable, scalable, and performant way that meet security standards.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to more junior colleagues.
- Ensure due technical consideration is given to make processes repeatable, scalable, and secure.
- Have a deep technical knowledge and experience in DevOps environments, providing support to delivery teams and solving complex problems.
- Adopt current, established ways of working and advise on improving them. The specialist will be pro-active in identifying areas to improve.
- Be transparent and collaborative when making decisions. Help facilitate team discussions to come to a consensus.
- Share knowledge and experience with other team members
- Be able to work with clients with low technical expertise

**Technology knowledge - Demonstrable technical and particular experience in the following technologies & tools**:

- RHEL-based Linux Distributions
- Infrastructure-as-Code (IAC) - ideally Terraform.
- Hashicorp Vault.
- Git or similar source control systems.
- Forman (Lifecycle management tool)
- Puppet (Configuration management)
- General knowledge - Demonstrable Experience in at least one of the below practices and design patterns:

- Testing Infrastructure-as-Code project
- Are familiar with good continuous integration and continuous delivery principles
- Experience of microservice design patterns

**Experience in the following to allow bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical**
- Translate technical concepts between infrastructure, delivery management and service management so they are understood by all
- Able to speak on behalf of technical and development teams and facilitate the relationships with indirect stakeholders
- Able to share knowledge and mentor (potentially non-technical) colleagues
- AWS - ideally knowledge of Networking, EC2, RDS, Cognito
- Experience with any or all of: Terragrunt, Icinga, Nexus, FreeIPA, Splunk
- Working experience with MySQL compatible DBs (MySQL, RDS, Aurora, MariaDB)
- Worked in a GitOps-driven environment
- Able to demonstrate they have worked in regulated environments (eg, finance, government)
- Able to demonstrate mentoring colleagues in automation, security, and reliability, within a DevOps context
- Demonstrable experience of identifying manual processes suitable for automation
- Existing SC clearance
