Overview:
**PepsiCo is looking for R&D Associate Scientist to join on 12 months FTC position in Leicester (this is 12 month maternity leave cover role).**

This role is in the Pellets, Extrusion & Stax team within the Global Foods Product Function team based in Beaumont Park.

A key focus area for this team is to drive and deliver the Global Pellets, Extrusion & Stax agenda and the incumbent will lead key work streams & activities within the Pellets Sodium Reduction project.

**Responsibilities**:
**Job Duties**:

- Lead key project work streams and activities within the Pellets Sodium Reduction project in order to achieve (i) internal Pep+ targets and (ii) external local and regulatory guidelines.
- Execute product-led trials at kitchen, pilot and factory scale to deliver & validate ingredients and process solutions, defining optimum operating windows and scale parameters.
- Support generation of compelling & creative product prototypes to illustrate technical possibilities to build business and stakeholder interest / alignment and steer development direction.
- Coordinate scale-up activities in factories internally by liaising closely with Operations Change manager and externally with relevant third parties.
- Comply with all regulatory & food safety requirements in product development, trials & consumer testing.

Qualifications:
**Key Skills/Experience Required**
- Minimum Honours degree in Food Science or related discipline.
- At least 2 years or more in the food or related industry.
- Self-starter with strong self-motivation to drive for results in an innovative, inquiring and scientifically robust manner.
- Must be practically minded, equally at home working in R&D development kitchens, Pilot Plant environments and running trials in food factories.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and negotiate effectively across all functions of the organisation.
- Excellent presentation skills (written & verbal).
- Strong analytical skills - ability to interpret complex data and distil into useful and actionable information.
- Ability to explain complex technical issues/solutions to a non-technical audience.
- Strives for high standards, seeks innovative solutions, drives continuous improvement of products, processes or methods and demonstrates a high degree of intellectual curiosity.
- Passion for creativity, innovation and processing technology within a commercially driven environment.

**Differentiating Competencies Required**
- Proven project management skills in a research environment.
- Able to draw scientific insights from a wide range of sources and use them to form new development hypotheses.
- Able to generate hypothesis-led experimental plans and execute/organise complicated trial plans, without direct support, and then draw the relevant conclusions.
- Able to interact with 3rd party and or ingredient vendors, capable of leading trials with mínimal support.
- Self-starter, self-motivating - able to deal with uncertainty and complexity.
