ROLE SUMMARY

The role of Category Buyer provides procurement support for our UK projects working as part of the Category Buying team at our Central Stores facility or in collaboration at a Depot Location to ensure sufficient stock levels are in place when required. It also involves the ownership and management of specific material or service suppliers and or categories. The role may involve some UK travel to specific project locations to engage with our suppliers, clients and technical teams on site and ensure the performance of our contractual material supply is being upheld.

SALARY RANGE

The annual salary range for this role is between £40,000 and £46,000, depending upon experience. Please see our excellent employee benefits listed below.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for ensuring material availability in stores to support fleet maintenance activities
- Sourcing of components to ensure compliance with specifications
- Ability to negotiate with suppliers focusing on cost, quality, and value
- Monitor supplier performance against lead times, quality and service and provide supplier performance KPI’s to the Category Manager for best supply chain selection
- Continually review stock holding, set minimum order levels based on supplier lead times, stock consumptions and trends
- Generate stock reports and order stock in a timely manner to ensure that minimum holding quantities are maintained
- Support the Category Manager and Project Materials Managers to ensure continuity of fleet service
- Process internal requests for goods or services as and when required
- Compliance with all corporate, purchasing, quality and Rail Industry Standards
- Assist various internal and external departments to provide the best possible procurement support for all business requirements
- Ability to manage specific Fleet, Product Category or Supplier Key Account requirements
- On occasion carry out other activities to assist the business requirements
- Produce relevant and accurate data and KPI’s around stock rotation, expenditure, and supplier performance
- Training - on occasion assist with any team training requirements

REQUIRED ACADEMIC SKILL
- Working towards CIPS and qualified to foundation level 4
- 3rd Level qualification is desirable but proven experience in a similar role is equivalent
- Other professional body membership is desirable

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/ PERSONAL COMPETENCIES
- Proven previous experience in a purchasing role
- Previous experience working in an Engineering or Rail environment is desirable
- Understanding of Mechanical & Electrical Systems and Components is desirable
- Excellent Communicator - Internal - upstream & stakeholders and to external sources
- Able to organize, prioritise and take ownership of work activities
- Good level of commercial acumen and efficiency improvement
- Language: English. A knowledge of Spanish would be beneficial but not essential
