Due to our continuing growth plans, we are looking to recruit an Area Leader - Salt Production at our site in Goldhanger, Essex.

**The role**

As an Area Leader, you work as part of the operations function in delivering the daily requirements to manufacture salt by effective operation of primary and secondary equipment, following established ways of working and ensuring your team uphold the company standards to include safety, quality, and performance metrics.

Key internal stakeholders for this position will include Engineering Support, Unit Leaders, and the Manufacturing Manager, who you will regularly communicate with about the progress of work effecting plant performance and other information effecting the activities on site.

**Key Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Operate and maintain associated equipment in primary and secondary areas of operation to known standards in terms of quality and efficiency.
- Complete Shift/Weekly checks of all plant and equipment
- Complete daily quality inspection of salt
- Ensure product produced meets Maldon Salt standards and product specification.
- Maintain effective communication with team members/ line management.
- Follow site escalation procedures in the event of issues, non-compliance, and failures.
- Ensure all product quality and traceability documentation has been completed.
- Fully understand and operate quality control procedures as outlined in the site quality systems.
- Fully participate in identified problem-solving processes to be able to do first line fault finding and diagnostics and work alongside the engineering team and external contractors.
- Full involvement in improvement activities utilising continuous improvement framework to establish and capture learning, best practice, document control and process control, plant re-design / modifications and engineering out of re-occurring problems.
- Be the lead in training the team in processes, procedures, and standards.
- Pallet truck use
- Pan set up.
- Salt pan raking duties when required to cover absence.
- Salt production duties
- Salt drying/storage
- Pan chipping
- Take reasonable and practical care of personal health and safety and of others who may be required to implement any legal or company directives regarding health and safety at work.
- Maintain and drive all standards relating to quality and hygiene, including cleaning/cleanliness of work areas.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested.

**Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required**:

- Practical experience of manual working
- An understanding of manufacturing, H&S process, legislation, and individual responsibilities is essential.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 2 GCSE’s A - C or demonstrable ability to interpret technical information is essential.
- HACCP/ISO/COSHH knowledge is desirable.
- FLT/RTITB /ITSAR desirable

**Hours**
- Monday to Friday: 6:30 am to 12:30 pm, however, overtime may be required.
