This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Heritage Practice within the Environment Business of Atkins. We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Consultant to join our nation-wide team of historic environment specialists, based out of our York or London office. The role will primarily be responsible for the project management and sub-project management of historic environment deliverables for several international projects. These projects are usually associated with large development frameworks and mega masterplanning schemes.The role will require managing and working with multi-disciplinary teams, including designers, masterplanners, sustainability and environmental specialists; travel to the Middle East and other countries as required; and advising on heritage constraints and mitigation, particularly in respect of World Heritage Sites.

**The Role**:
**_ Job responsibilities would include:_**
- Managing heritage specialists and being heritage technical advisor for international projects.
- Providing technical advice to a range of clients and internal teams on a diverse range of projects.
- Writing and editing policy documents; heritage strategies, heritage baseline reports.
- Providing heritage management advice; contributing to design optioneering and masterplanning process.
- Supporting growth of international network and liaison with Middle East Atkins team, alongside Technical Director for Heritage, to grow services and market.
- Providing quality assurance sign off for heritage reports and project deliverables.
- Problem solving and assessing heritage constraints and opportunities to inform and influence design development.
- Consulting and liaising with heritage stakeholders, client project teams and project environmental experts and other project specialists.
- Supporting decision making on bids, producing fee proposals and providing technical inputs on tenders.
- Supporting UK projects as and when required.

**Experience and skills requirements**:
**_ Qualifications:_**

Relevant Masters level, or higher qualification in a recognised historic environment discipline or considerable experience in the heritage sector akin to this level of qualification.

**_ Essential:_**
- Ability to work and travel internationally on Atkins’ business.
- Previous experience of working on international projects and World Heritage Sites.
- Strong background in heritage management.
- Good working knowledge of UNESCO and ICOMOS policies and guidance for heritage.
- Experience of supporting programmes for large scale multi-discipline projects.
- Experience in a commercial consultancy environment.
- Experience of the consenting process for listed buildings and scheduled monuments.
- Full, clean, UK driving licence, and
- Health and Safety awareness.

**_ Desired:_**
- Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA) or Institute for Historic Buildings Conservation (IHBC).
- Experience of working in the UK and UK planning system and historic environment legislation.
- Commercial skills and experience.
- Good working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office packages and GIS.
- Project management experience.
- Interest in contributing to our technical network in sustainable heritage; digital heritage and carbon net zero agendas.
