**About the role**:

- Due to an upcoming retirement, Gentoo Group is looking for an experienced Payroll Supervisor to join the team at its Sunderland head office. In this role, you will process payroll-related tasks and supervise a small team of Payroll Advisors to deliver a first-class payroll and pension service to the Group that complies with financial regulations, policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Group’s Payroll function, including a current team of two direct reports, planning and prioritisation of workloads, and reviewing tasks for accuracy.
- Delivery of monthly payroll. Processing payroll and staffing data, including starters, changes and leavers, deductions and payments, mileage, expenses and overtime claims. Calculate and process increments, pay awards and allowance changes in accordance with local agreements.
- Assist in the administration of the Group’s DB and DC pension schemes in accordance with relevant legislation. Provide Tyne and Wear Pension Fund (TWPF) with accurate pension information for starters, leavers and current employees. Also, provide pension estimates to managers and employees.
- Act as a system administrator for the HR and Payroll System (Zellis) specifically in relation to the payroll elements of the system. Lead on system upgrades including test to live transitions.
- Transformational project requirements. Act as lead for a change in the system ensuring accuracy of data migration, engagement with external and internal stakeholders and training of the team.
- Ensure all Payroll activities comply with all internal governance, statutory, legislative and regulatory requirements. Specifically ensure that all HMRC, TWPF and ONS deadlines and Employment Tax matters are adhered to.

**What we are looking for**:

- Previous demonstrable experience in supervising and leading direct reports in a payroll function.

Previous experience with Zellis payroll system is desirable, however not essential.
You will also have the ability to prioritize and manage a large and varied workload, with the ability to build personal and functional credibility with stakeholders and colleagues.
