Gloucester, United Kingdom Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust Full time

My name is Jim Welch. I am the Lead Nurse for Mental Health Liaison Services at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust and I am looking for a Band 6 (Registered Professional) Mental Health Practitioner to join my team.

As the successful applicant you will join our dedicated 9-5 Alcohol Liaison Service. You will participate in the provision of a responsive, needs-led mental health assessment and short-term intervention service to people presenting to the General Hospital with harmful alcohol use and/or detoxification.

I will work with you to ensure that we support your professional and developmental needs, this includes a personalised induction to ensure that you are fully prepared and supported in delivering this service

Our aim is to work closely with our Acute Hospital colleagues to deliver a pro-active, patient focused service that delivers the right care at the right time.

If you have excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to deliver high quality care and you want to develop as a professional then I want to hear from you.

Offer an assessment, intervention and referral service for patients over the age of 18, with dependant, harmful and hazardous alcohol use that present to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital.

Provide advice to medical and nursing staff regarding the acute detoxification for those physically dependant on alcohol.

Providing an alcohol consultation, liaison and advice service throughout the departments

Delivering a range of evidence based interventions, patient education and motivational work to individual patients who have been identified as having severe and complex needs relating to their alcohol use.

Assisting and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations

Providing formal and informal education and clinical supervision to registered and unregistered staff

Representing mental health services within the Hospitals

Providing a communication structure between secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services, as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care

At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.

Our Staff Survey results showed people at our Trust feel they are engaged, part of a team and work for a compassionate and inclusive organisation.

Our overall scores were better than average in eight of nine themes and level in one - the best overall results for a community, mental health and learning disabilities Trust in the south west and first equal amongst all sector NHS providers within the region too.

Gloucestershire Health and Care is committed to embedding and providing personalised care through all of its services as part of our high-quality care strategy. The purpose of personalised care is to empower people to lead the lives they want to live. Personalised care starts with a conversation with people about what matters to them. It builds on what people can do, as well as addressing their health needs. Including new ways of working and delivering care, emphasising that we need to make effective use of the full range of our people’s skills and experience to deliver the best possible patient care. So we want to know What Matters to You and that you will share our values and join us on this very important journey.

The qualification, training & experience requirements for the role are underlined in the Job Description/Person Specification.
