An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and capable Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join the Intergrated Toxicology/ Reference Biochemistry Department at Synnovis King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust.

The Reference Biochemistry Laboratories at King’s College Hospital (part of Synnovis Analytics LLP) provides specialist service delivery using latest technology in a variety of laboratories (Metabolic, Immunochemistry, Porphyrins, Gastrointestinal, Steroids, Diabetes, POCT, Toxicology and Trace Elements).

The postholder will be expected to support Biomedical and Clinical scientists with processing of biological samples in the Reference Biochemistry and Integrated Toxicology Laboratories. To assist in maintaining manual and computerised records and to help deal with telephone enquiries within the section. The postholder will be working in a UKAS accredited laboratory where a high volume of samples are tested daily.

**Your development and learning**:
You will have a suite of learning opportunities available through The Synnovis Way Development programme, the Scientific Learning and Development Fund and the Synnovis Academy through which you can receive funding / support for advanced qualifications.
- To undertake SATO duties as directed by qualified Biomedical Scientist/Clinical Scientist staff or through the supervisor, which includes sample processing and preparation, inputting of patient results and associated clerical duties.
- To prepare samples requiring biochemical and/or toxicological investigations from internal and external users of our service.
- To prepare samples for despatch to other NHS Hospitals (as required).
- To maintain manual and computerised records.
- To liaise with all areas of the Department and with other departments and other hospitals with respect to service delivery.
- To answer telephone enquiries for results, passing requests for advice to appropriate senior staff. To reply to enquiries from external hospitals asking about outstanding results.
- To monitor and record fridge and freezer temperatures on a daily basis.
- To assist with training and supervision of other SATO colleagues to carry out safely all procedures relating to Reference Biochemistry / Integrated Toxicology sample handling and preparation.
- To maintain confidentiality at all times with regard to patient information and results.
- To work with the Team to regularly review the working practice as part of the Department’s drive towards maintaining a high quality and safe service.
- To follow and implement the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Safety Policy and Code of Practice. Inform the Safety Officer on safety issues within the Department.
- To develop an understanding of the scientific basis of Laboratory work.
- The SATO must not disclose any information concerning patients to unauthorised persons, under the 1984 Data Protection Act.
