We are recruiting for aChief Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist to join our friendly and supportive team of 11 technical staff and 2 administrative staff, working with 9 Respiratory Consultants.

We have a busy Respiratory and Sleep service, including outpatient respiratory and sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education.

You must have a BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent, and or be on the RCCP register.

To competently and confidently perform pulmonary function tests and sleep investigations.

To provide technical reports and interpretation on investigations that are performed within the department.

To hold CPAP consultations for patients requiring treatment set-up, follow-up and annual review, and to provide comprehensive written reports.

To deputise for the Principal Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist during times of leave and where delegated

To vet referrals and, with the support of the Principal Physiologist, make patient treatment decisions.

To ensure personal development through continued professional development (CPD).

The person should have specialist experience in advance sleep technology / advanced respiratory testing. To perform as an independent practitioner using clinical experience to manage patient care in a medical clinical environment.

In addition your role will include supporting and training more junior team members and running or attending regular meetings, updating policies and procedures and training students.

Perform, analyse and report on a wide range of respiratory investigations including:
Full lung function testing (Spirometry, static lung volumes and gas transfer)

Bronchodilator reversibility testing

FENO

6 Minute walk test

Overnight oximetry

Multichannel sleep studies (Respiratory Polygraphy)

Full Polysomnography and MSLT

Actigraphy

Record, measure and monitor physiological changes in patients and deliver accurate, reliable and reproducible results.

Hold consultation clinics discussing results of sleep investigations and explaining CPAP

Revalidation and Registration therapy, including the administration of CPAP.

Follow up all patients on CPAP treatment to ensure adequate compliance, implement additional investigations as necessary and continue to support established patients.

Make decisions on treatment modifications for CPAP patients.

Ensure the safe use and maintenance of all equipment.

Perform required calibrations and organize maintenance updates as necessary.

Participate in the Sleep MDM and put patients through for discussion as appropriate, based on clinical queries.

Competency and experience performing and interpreting Lung Function Tests fully independently

In-depth knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology and pathology

Knowledge of sleep disorders an
