**Job Purpose**
To work supporting teaching and research activities in the James Watt School of Engineering. Main tasks are to set up and support Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories. To ensure the Teaching Laboratories maintain a high standard of housekeeping and safe use. To carry out additional operational duties throughout the School of Engineering as required. Providing Logistical support as necessary.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Set up and prepare undergraduate teaching labs.
2. Ensure ordered, safe storage of equipment when not in use.
3. Source and procure materials and lab consumables as required.
4. Initiate and report routine maintenance and repairs on the apparatus and equipment in teaching labs where appropriate.
5. Liaise with administrative and technical staff to ensure teaching timetable is adhered to.
6. Catalogue equipment and report on maintenance and/or calibration schedules.
7. Advise technical colleagues of broken or damaged equipment.
8. Carry out operational and routine duties throughout the School as directed by senior technicians.
9. Maintain the component store used by students and staff, ordering and replenishing stock as required. Order materials required for student projects.
11. Actively pursue personal development and improvement of skills by gaining experience and knowledge in a broad range of areas serviced by our technical staff.

**Knowledge and Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role OR Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 4 in English and Mathematics \[National 4\] or equivalent, and some experience of working in a similar role.
A2 Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and modern business IT systems.
A3 Good understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures.

**Desirable**
B1 Full UK driving licence.
B2 Basic knowledge of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Electronics.
B3 Basic understanding of manual handling and lifting procedures.
B4 Electrical/Engineering based apprenticeship.

**Skills**

**Essential**
C1 Able to set up basic teaching laboratory equipment.
C2 Competent in the use of hand tools.
C3 Able to independently work from timetables and verbal instructions.
C4 Able to plan and organize work delegated by senior technicians.
C5 Good problem-solving skills
C6 Good interpersonal skills
C7 Able to work independently and as part of a team.
C8 Good communication skills

**Desirable**
D1 Able to create equipment database.
D2 Able to use power tools competently.
D3 Basic mechanical or electrical workshop skills.

**Experience**

**Essential**
E1 Some experience of working in a dry/wet laboratory environment.
E2 Experience of working with the public.
E3 Experience of working independently under the direction of a manager
E4 Experience of planning and scheduling work and managing time efficiently.
E5 Experience of working safely in accordance with health and safety protocols

**Desirable**
F1 Some experience of working in a storage facility.
F2 Some experience of work requiring manual handling skills.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 3, £21,400 - £22,197 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
