BOATYARD OPERATIVE

Job Title: Boatyard Operative

Location: Rudders Boatyard, Burton

Dates: ASAP until end of September (Permanent position available for the right person)

Hours: To include 3 weekends out of every 4, 9:00 - 17:00 (7 hours)

Reports to: Operations Director

**Salary**: £11 per hour

Job Role Summary

Our team is key to what we do, and the boatyard operatives are at the forefront of our customers and our excellent reputation.

As boatyard operative you will help to deliver our launch and recovery service and ensure we do everything possible to deliver to our customer’s needs.

You’ll need a great combination of excellent interpersonal skills along with a friendly, approachable and outgoing personality. It’s also essential that you are efficient, reliable and conscientious.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

- Print the pre-booked boat movements each morning and check customer balances are zero. Assist in taking payment for any unpaid balances
- To assist and eventually run the trailer launch & recover service to ensure our customers needs are met and boats are moved safely and efficiently
- Ensure the boatyard is kept tidy and the toilet/showers are checked and cleaned regularly
- Support and assist in large boat movements and launches
- Be self-motivated to work through jobs allocated to you on the system such as, Antifouling, Pressure Washing, Polishing and preparing boats for our engineer
- Occasionally carry our boatyard phone and answering calls that come through to answer questions or create notes for other members of the team
- Assist and support other boatyard work being carried out by the team

Personal Specification:

- You must be enthusiastic, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- The ability to use your initiative and prioritise workload along with being able to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Self-Motivated and able to work under pressure
- A self-starter able to work with mínimal supervision
- A willingness to support and assist the wider team

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

- Previous experience of a similar role (Boatyard Worker, Marine Assistant, Marina Work, Labour, Heavy Machinery, Farming etc)
- A solid understanding of excellent customer service practice
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and written
- Basic IT skills with the ability to learn new systems (Essential)
- Confident in and around the water (Essential)
- Heavy machinery experience either in marine or other environments (Desired but not essential)
- Powerboat Level 2 (Desired)
- First Aid (Desired)

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract
Part-time hours: 22.5 per week
