Old Palace School is an independent girls’ school for children between the ages of 3 and 19. We have two sites; our Prep School is based in South Croydon with our Senior School is in central Croydon.

We are seeking to recruit a Drama and Music Assistant to further strengthen our excellent Drama and Music departments. The primary responsibility of the Drama and Music Assistant (DMA) at Old Palace is to provide an excellent standard of support to both departments and for all students in their care. The DMA reports to, and is supported by, the Head of Drama and Director of Music.

**The Drama & Music Departments**

The Music and Drama departments foster a collaborative and creative environment. There are two full-time Music teachers; 2 full-time and 1 part-time Drama teachers. The departments also work closely with Dance and all three departments will be collaborating together on the musical.

**Main Responsibilities**

The primary responsibility of the Graduate Music and Drama Assistant (GDMA) at Old Palace is to provide an excellent standard of support to both departments and for all students in their care. The GDMA reports to, and is supported by, the Director of Music and Head of Drama.

Students also enjoy opportunities such as professional workshops and trips.

**Main Responsibilities**

Core Purpose **Provide an excellent standard of support to both departments.**
- Provide administrative support to both departments.
- Piano accompaniment and other musical support (desired, but not required).
- Production (Whole School Musical) support and management.
- Provide additional practical support in exam classes and other extra-curricular activities.
- Support students according to their educational needs, to maximise the learning opportunities for each individual.
- Promote a positive learning climate through praise and encouragement.
- Maintain a commitment to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school

**Professional Contribution**
- Assist with and attend official functions e.g. examinations, celebrations, open events and formal occasions, including church services.
- Supervise students when requested.
- Have an awareness of and follow the school health and safety policy and codes of behaviour.
- Maintain good order at all times and safeguard students’ health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.
- To participate in (and, where appropriate, contribute to) the general well-being and professional development of the staff and school for the benefit of all students.
- Keep up to date with school policies and remain sufficiently aware of the personal circumstances and problems of individual students taught to act confidently and consistently with colleagues, whilst respecting confidentiality.
- Support the ethos of the school by being a visible presence.
- Adopt professional standards of behaviour and appearance at all times.
- Work as a supportive member of the staff.
- Consult colleagues for guidance and share best practice.
- Familiarise themselves with all the relevant documentation and policies.
- Take responsibility for the development of their professional portfolio.
- Undertake other work as directed by the Head of Drama or Director of Music.

**Payscale**

Competitive John Whitgift Foundation salary and Benefits Package.
