A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BTH as an upper limb therapist specialising in hand therapy and the production of bespoke upper limb splinting. This role will provide the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians to build up competencies to be able to practice at a band 7 level.

Continuous professional development is supported through supervision/ in house training. We also have close links and partnerships with local universities that can improve ease of access to post grad training.
- To operate in a Clinical specialist role within Trauma & Orthopaedic.
- To manage clients with complex needs within this setting, using evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in the community, maintaining associated records.
- The post holder will liase with Consultants, M.D.T. Members, relatives and carers to ensure maximum effectiveness of treatment.
- The post holder will assess and treat all patients referred for upper limb splints using established protocols.
- To provide clinical leadership for junior and support staff, through supervision and appraisal as delegated by supervisor.
- To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Services within this designated area, holding responsibility for defined projects.
- To encourage innovation and service development at all levels of the Service.
- To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in developmental activities.
- To lead the learning and development of the clinical staff within area of expertise.
- To continue to pursue personal development in areas of clinical interest, Service Improvement and leadership and management.
- Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own team’s clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/ manager of service for change to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about providing first class assessment and treatment to people with a variety of musculoskeletal disorders. You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic and have a flexible/adaptable approach to your work.

Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in your care, in accordance with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Quality Assurance Standards (2012) and Trust clinical guidelines.

Be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through continued professional development activities and the maintenance of a portfolio.

Actively search out and work within evidence based practice and to include the use of information technology for this purpose.

Attend and be an active participant in ‘In-Service’ training, Clinical Supervision as a Supervisee, Journal Clubs, tutorials etc.

Attend “Team Meetings” on a monthly basis and any absence should be agreed with the Line Manager.

Attend monthly education sessions lead by clinical specialists or members of the tier 2 team.

Attend mandatory training as stipulated by the organisation.

Participate in the Staff Appraisal Scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed Personal Development Plan.

To play a role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality of Orthotics who have complex presentations, and determine clinical diagnosis and appropriate treatment and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
